Frankenstein

Victor Frankenstein - Protagonist, Round, Dynamic

He has a passion of learning, particularly studying philosophy. His dream was to give life to something inanimate, but this dream back fired. Victor tries to escape his creation, and does so for a while. He faces two deaths that he later learns were, in fact, caused by the being he created. His guilt crushes him into sadness for he was the sole reason to the deaths. He wants to kill the thing he created. Instead, he ends up agreeing to create another, a female, for the monster. Victor tries to put if off for as long as possible, but fears the consequences of not obliging to the monster's wants. Much time passes until his newest creation begins to come to a close. He sees his original creation out his window, and in horror of what could be their offspring, he rips apart the monster's would-be mate. He despises he creation so much that he's willing to be killed by it so he wouldn't suffer the emotional turmoil any longer. Victor witnesses two more deaths cause by the monster, Henry Clerval and Elizabeth. These treacheries cause him to cease communications with society and go after the monster with all his life. After much chasing, he dies of exhaustion, madness, and famine, but not before he passes his story to his rescuer, Captain Robert Walton. His goal of capturing his monster and destroying it was not fulfilled.

Robert Walton -

Walton is a captain sailing to the North Pole. He encounters Victor during the last leg of his chase of his monster. When he finds Victor, Victor is sick and close to death. As Victor recovers, but never fully, he tells Walton his life story, including his creation. Walton begins to form a strong friendship with the dying Victor, and is sadden when Victor passes away. Walton is like Victor because they both search for almost unattainable knowledge. Victor searched for the cause of life and death, and Walton searched for the secrets of the North Pole area. When Victor dies his creation shows up by his side. Walton has the courage to face the creature since Victor already told him all about it.  The being gives a sort of emotional confession to Walton, and Walton tried arguing back that it was a wretched being. When the being finishes the rest of the side of his story, he flings himself out the window into the raging, icy ocean.

His Creation - Antagonist, Round

Victor put body pieces together to form an ultimate being, stronger and faster than the average human. After Victor abandons him, he goes out into the world in search of knowledge. He longs to be with a family and love each person tenderly. Society shuns and hates him, casting him into the unknown. He doesn't understand their reasoning, but after he's attacked multiple times he becomes angry. He then seeks revenge on his creator and mankind for sending him into such a terrible world. He murders William, and Justine is convicted for it. He comes across Victor again and convinces Victor to create a mate for him.
